Fishing

There is more to fishing than you think.  Many people believe that you simply put a worm on the end of a rod, cast the line into the water, and a fish will come along and latch onto the worm.  You can fish with all sorts of objects and hope for the best, but live worm fishing is possibly the most popular method of fishing.  Making the worm look as natural as possible is important, as the fish is more likely to take the bait.  Instead of using a single hook and gadget called a gang hook is used, this is basically two hooks which are tied together, meaning that the live worms can be tied onto the hook to look as natural as possible.

It is important to have clean hands when putting the worm onto the hook, as any foreign smells will put the fish off the bait.  A good way to eliminate smells from the hands is to rub them in muck and grass before putting the bait onto the hook.  The weather is also a major factor when fishing, at certain points of the month depending on the phase of the moon, it is likely that there will be no fish to be had.

There is the kind of fishing, which is mentioned above, this usually involves sitting at the side of a pond for hours, with just your rod for company, a few maggots and other anglers who are sleeping, and there is the salt water fishing kind.  Which involves trawler men, trawling the seas waiting for fish to get caught up in their nets.  These fish are usually sold on to super markets.

The tackle which is sold for fishing is a very important aspect of fishing, the better the hook, rod, reel and tackle, the more likely you are to catch that all important fish.  Many people fish as a sport, and have won medals and competitions for catching the biggest fish.  There have been reports that the biggest fish ever caught, was captured just off the Gulf of Thailand and was names at the Rhincodon typus, also known at the whale shark, this fish was 59 feet and was reportedly captured in the year 1919.

The largest fish in Britain which has been caught to date was 66lb, and was captured by a lady called Bev Street.  The catfish is the largest freshwater fish to be caught in Britain, and was caught in the Bluebell Lakes which are situated in Cambridgeshire.
